**Sainsbury’s is working with Oxfam to test contactless giving boxes at two of its
stores. The boxes offer a quick, secure and convenient method of giving, especially
if customers don’t have change to hand.**

The trial gets underway this weekend at Sainsbury’s Amblecote and Emersons Green
stores. Customers simply tap their contactless bank card or mobile payment device
on the Oxfam contactless box this weekend, and an agreed amount is transferred directly
to the charity.

Oxfam has previously trialed the systems in their own shops and at their events,
but this is the first time the charity has teamed up with a major retailer.

## East Africa crisis appeal

The money raised by the collections will contribute to Oxfam’s East Africa Food
Crisis appeal. More than 16 million people are facing severe food shortages in Ethiopia,
Somalia and Kenya. In addition war in South Sudan has driven more than three million
people from their homes and left millions more in need of emergency food.

Sainsbury’s and Oxfam have been working in partnership since 2010. Last year the
retailer was named as a member of the Oxfam Emergency Response network as a result
of its ongoing emergency and disaster support.

Sainsbury’s support includes providing facilities for customers to recycle clothing,
books and other items, all of which are redistributed and either sold in one of
Oxfam’s stores, repurposed into something else or sold overseas.
