**Minister for Civil Society, Rob Wilson (pictured), is meeting with the charity
sector today to explore ways of encouraging greater giving to local charities.**

The roundtable is hosted by the Cabinet Office and chaired by the [Foundation for Social Improvement](http://www.thefsi.org/)(
FSI), and will bring together leaders from civil society, businesses and academia
to put small charities at the top of the agenda.

This is the first in a series of events called ‘The Giving Roundtables’ which will
discuss topics including how to encourage further giving by high-income individuals
and employers.

The event will be attended by a range of organisations including the Cabinet Office,
[NCVO](https://www.ncvo.org.uk/), Localgiving, Institute of Fundraising, Santander,
Lloyds Bank Foundation, Charities Aid Foundation, [Small Charities Coalition](http://www.smallcharities.org.uk/)
and Leathersellers.

Minister for Civil Society, Rob Wilson, said:

> “Small charities represent the overwhelming majority of the sector, directly serving
> their communities. This is why I am making them front and centre for the Office
> for Civil Society and Innovation. I want to make sure that these responsive, locally
> engaged and committed organisations receive the recognition and support they deserve.”

Pauline Broomhead, CEO of The FSI commented:

> “Our research over the last 33 months shows small charities have seen a decline
> in funding and an increase in demand for services. It is now more important than
> ever before to collaborate and discuss how to increase giving to local and small
> charities.”
