# New Director of Fundraising at Alzheimer’s Society

**Michael Dent today takes up his new role of Director of Fundraising at dementia
charity Alzheimer’s Society, succeeding Jon Bodenham.**

He joins from Macmillan Cancer Support, where he has been Director of Mass Market
Fundraising since September 2011.

At Macmillan he led a 90-strong team, boosting the charity’s income from £98 million
to more than £170 million in five years. During that period the charity recruited
more than two million new supporters.

As well as increasing the income of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning he
introduced a number of new fundraising events including [Sober October](https://fundraising.co.uk/2013/10/05/14-charity-campaigns-that-hijack-names-month/),
Brave the Shave and Good Night In.

Dent, who had been promoted from Head of Direct Marketing & Sales at Macmillan from
August 2010, also volunteers for the cancer charity, and recently climbed Mount 
Kilimanjaro to raise funds personally.

He is also a trustee for International Development Enterprises.

At [Alzheimer’s Society](https://www.alzheimers.org.uk) he will oversee all the 
charity’s fundraising and commercial activities. On starting at the charity he said:

 

> ‘There is huge potential for fundraising for one of today’s biggest health issues.
> It will be a privilege to join the team to help grow the charity and raise more
> income to fund important research, campaigns and the delivery of more services
> to help more people with dementia than ever before.”
