**A non-profit pop-up store in East London is helping the homeless this winter by
selling products that will be handed out to the city’s rough sleepers in the run
up to Christmas.**

[Crack + Cider](http://www.crackandcider.com) aims to give people a useful way of
directly helping the homeless without handing over cash. Customers can buy umbrellas,
hats, socks, and gloves, fleeces, winter jackets, and backpacks to be distributed
amongst the homeless, or the Warm and Dry Set, which includes every item. Prices
range from £5 for an umbrella to £60 for the set, and since launch, the store has
sold more than £5000 worth of stock.

Founders Charlotte Cramer and Scarlett Montanaro chose the items after asking shelters
what would be of most use to the city’s rough sleepers, naming their store Crack
+ Cider after a homeless neighbour told them that people didn’t give him money because
of the perception that this was what it would be spent on.
