**Sales of the Rare Tea Company’s RAF Tea for Heroes loose-leaf tea have raised
over £30,000 for the Royal Air Forces Association’s Wings Appeal over the past five
years. 50p from the sale of each tin or ‘re-fuel’ refill goes to the charity.**

The bespoke blend is “made by farmers, not by vast agri-businesses” and not processed
by machine. It first went on sale in September 2010, to mark the 70th anniversary
of the Battle of Britain.

Henrietta Lovell, founder of the Rare Tea Company, was inspired to create the blend
and raise funds for a RAF charity [when she met Terry Clark](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/battle-of-britain-veteran-inspires-special-blend-of-charity-tea),
then aged 90, who had served as an air gunner in a Blenheim light bomber aircraft
during the Battle of Britain.
