**Ed Aspel has been appointed as Executive Director of Fundraising and Marketing
at Cancer Research UK, succeeding Richard Taylor, who is also Chair of the Institute
of Fundraising.**

Aspel is currently director of patient engagement, where he has led the team in
the process of implementing the patient engagement strategy for the charity.

He has worked at Cancer Research UK for three years and has had roles in the innovation
and strategic marketing planning teams. Before that he worked at hospitality group
Whitbread as group marketing director, and at the Government’s Central Office of
Information as group strategy director.

Aspel said:

> “I’m delighted to be taking on an executive director role at Cancer Research UK.
> I’ve loved working for the organisation for the past three years. But this is
> a whole new challenge for me and I’m looking forward to leading the directorate
> in implementing exciting and creative work that secures long-term income to help
> us beat cancer sooner.”

Taylor had planned to leave CRUK and take up a senior role at Which? this year,
but, following the controversy over fundraising methods generated by The Daily Mail,
he has decided not to move.

Aspel will be moving into the role gradually over the coming months, working alongside
Richard Taylor to benefit from a full handover into the post.
