Highly successful fundraising charities, teams and individuals were recognised at
the National Fundraising Awards, held in London on the first day of the Institute
of Fundraising’s National Fundraising Convention. Over 2,500 fundraisers attend
Convention.

The winners of the 23rd annual awards were announced at a ceremony hosted by comedian
Shappi Khorsandi.

The awards reflected this year’s Convention theme which was “**Best you can be**“,
emphasising the need for fundraisers continously to improve, learn and achieve more.

Kevin Kibble, Chair of the National Fundraising Awards Judging Panel, said:

> “Being part of the fundraising profession makes me feel immensely proud, and at
> a time when our profession is under scrutiny to an extent we have never known
> before, tonight we have honoured some of the very best in charity fundraising,
> showing just how good we can be and helping make the world a better place for
> all”.

## Lifetime Achievement

The  Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Stephen Pidgeon, a leading figure
in the sector. Not known for his lack of words, he was clearly touched as he accepted
the award on stage. He served for many years as trustee of the Institute of Fundraising
and as Chair of the Institute’s Standards Committee, during which time he led a
review of the Codes of Practice that resulted in 28 different Codes being turned
into one Code.

Professor Adrian Sargeant, said:

> “Stephen’s contribution to the profession of fundraising has been genuinely distinctive.
> He has touched the future of the profession, but also through that, the lives
> of many thousands of people in this country who are no longer the target of poor
> quality solicitations and communications. He has worked tirelessly to create new
> fundraising standards that have had a profound impact on our sector, being highly
> successful in influencing change for the better. He is a prolific author and speaker
> and devotes many hours to serving the development needs of others; helping them
> enhance the quality of experience they are able to offer their donors.”
