# 1,486 new grantmakers last year in England and Wales

Last year, 1,468 new grantmaking organisations were established in England and Wales,
according to grantmaking researchers New Charities.

The organisation has published Top Trusts 2013, which lists the largest 108 grantmakers
from that list. These include several which hold wealth in

According to New Charities, over 40% of the new grantmakers were “irrelevant to 
professional fundraisers”, so the ‘top trusts’ have been selected from the remaining
872, which were then analysed by prospect research specialists [Finbar Cullen](https://www.fundraising.co.uk/author/FinbarCullen/),
