Irish supermarket chain Supervalu has donated €100,000 to homelessness charity Focus
Ireland, proceeds from fruit and vegetable sales in the Christmas period.

Fourteen cents from every 19 cent bag of carrots and a share of sales of brussel
sprouts and melons sold in the days before Christmas 2013 were donated to Focus.

Announcing the charity promotion before Christmas, Supervalu said it was also their
intention to keep the cost of fruit and vegetables at a reasonable price rather
than engaging in a ‘race to the bottom,’ a reference to other retailers who were
heavily discounting fruit and vegetables.
