Digital fundraising platform JustGiving has created Yimby.com, a crowdfunding service
to help people in the UK raise funds for a cause or local project that matters to
them.

It helps individuals and groups to fund community initiatives that are not necessarily
affiliated with a charity. This can range from purchasing basketball wheelchairs,
through planting community gardens, funding computers for an after-school club,
to providing mentoring programmes for young people.

‘Yimby’ turns the notion of ‘not in my backyard’ or ‘Nimby’ on its head into a more
positive ‘Yes in my backyard’.

It is built on JustGiving’s platform, and was part-funded by a £50,000 [NESTA Innovation in Giving grant](http://www.nesta.org.uk/project/innovation-giving-fund).

Users of [Yimby](http://www.yimby.com) have 30 days in which to promote their campaign
via social and other networks. If a project does not hit its target within the allotted
30 days, payments will not be taken and donors will not be charged.

JustGiving, founded in 2001, has now helped raised £1.6 billion for 13,000 charities
in the UK and around the world. Over 21 million people have used it to raise funds.

## Kettering Town FC saved from bankruptcy

The beta version of the site was used recently to save 141-year-old non-league Kettering
Town FC from bankruptcy. Supporters and members of the public from around the world
made 1,182 pledges totalling £20,546  to keep the club alive.

## JustGiving Fees

JustGiving charges a 5% fee and card fees of 1.3% or 16p per donation, depending
on the card type, on projects that hit their target. It does not charge anything
on unsuccessful projects as no money changes hands.

[JustGiving](http://www.justgiving.com) co-founder Zarine Kharas, said:

> “JustGiving used the internet to revolutionise charitable giving. Our mission
> is to grow the world of giving and with Yimby, we’re taking this one step further,
> opening up philanthropy to any individual wanting to start a community project
> using the power of crowd.”
