# Martin Brookes joins Paul Hamlyn Foundation as Director

Martin Brookes, formerly Chief Executive of New Philanthropy Capital, is to become
the next Director at Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the foundation set up in 1987 by the
publisher and philanthropist Paul Hamlyn. Brookes succeeds Robert Dufton and will
start work in June 2013.

 

After training as an economist, Brookes worked at the Bank of England and Goldman
Sachs before he joined New Philanthropy Capital in 2001 as Head of Research. In 
2008 he was was appointed Chief Executive, and left in 2011 to rejoin the private
sector.

Jane Hamlyn, Chair of Paul Hamlyn Foundation, said: “I am delighted that Martin 
will be joining us as Director. His experience in policy, research and impact in
the charitable sector and his understanding of philanthropy are ideally suited to
our work at Paul Hamlyn Foundation."

 

Brookes said of his appointment: "I am extremely pleased to join the Paul Hamlyn
Foundation. As a grant recipient in the past, I know personally that the Foundation
is a thoughtful and strategic funder, thanks to the tremendous work of Robert Dufton,
the board and staff."

 

Paul Hamlyn Foundation "aims to maximise opportunities for individuals to realise
their potential and experience a better quality of life". IN the UK it operates 
through three programmes – the Arts, Education and Learning, and Social Justice.
It also supports NGOs in India.
