The Rolex Awards for Enterprise, which are given every two years, are now open for
applications for the 2014 round. The awards are designed to recognise “extraordinary
individuals who possess the courage and conviction to take on major challenges”.

They are given for a new or ongoing project anywhere in the world – “one that deserves
support for its capacity to improve lives, or protect the world’s natural and cultural
heritage”.

The 2014 Awards will be open only to young candidates, those aged between 18 and
30.

## How to apply

Applicants must submit details of their project that tackles the world’s most pressing
issues in one of five areas: science and health, applied technology, exploration
and discovery, the environment, and cultural heritage. These are judged on their
feasibility, originality, potential for sustained impact and, “above all, on the
candidates’ spirit of enterprise”.

The **successful Young Laureates will each receive 50,000 Swiss francs over a period
of two years**. In addition, Rolex ensures all winners receive access to its network
of more than 100 past Laureates, as well as the benefit of international publicity
through media coverage and the Rolex Awards website.

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise were launched in 1976 to commemorate the 50th anniversary
of the Oyster chronometer, the world’s first waterproof watch.

Applications close on 31 May 2013.
