The Institute of Fundraising is asking its organisational members to support a campaign
to lobby mobile phone providers Everything Everywhere (Orange and T-Mobile) to join
other mobile operators to pass on 100% of text donations to charity.

At present, Everything Everywhere passes on 100% of text donations to its own charity
partners, but only 90% to other UK charities.

The Institute points out that “whilst O2, Vodafone and most recently Virgin are
committed to passing on 100% of text donations to charities, Orange and T-Mobile(
who have now merged to form Everything Everywhere) are the only remaining mobile
operators not to do this”.

Text donations proved particularly popular for this year’s Red Nose Day, generating
almost double the £7.8 million income from text donations raised by the 2009 campaign.

Louise Richards, Director of Policy and Campaigns, Institute of Fundraising said:“
The charges imposed on text donations by Everything Everywhere are an impediment
to effective fundraising via mobile text giving. Everything Everywhere must change
its policy and end these charges.”

As part of the campaign, organisational members are encouraged to email Steven Day,
Vice President of Brand and Communications at Everything Everywhere.

The Institute has also written to the Government, asking it to exert its influence
in this situation.
