Despite a fall in income in a number of key fundraising areas, the Irish Heart Foundation(
IHF) managed to maintain overall income figures, the charity’s annual report for
2009 shows.

IHF’s total income for 2009 was €5.85 million down from €5.9 million in 2008. The
organisation’s key event, Happy Heart Weekend, saw income fall from €553,000 in
20008 to €533,000 in 2009, with the event’s expensees increasing from €276,000 to
€361,000.

The charity’s walks income increased from €142,000 to €166,000 but expenses also
increased significantly. One of IHF’s longest running events, the Skipathon, saw
income drop significantly to €128,000 from €275,000.

Bequest income was €1.25 million, down from €2.1 million in 2008, although that
year’s figure was exceptional for the charity.

The largest income figure in the accounts for 2009 is described as “other income”
and at €2.6 milllion represented nearly 45% of total income. The comparable figure
for 2008 was €1.6 million. As the charity states that 90% of its income comes from
public and corporate donations it is likely that this is fundraising.

IHF has a partnership with Lidl which last year raised €100,000 based on 10% of
the sales oof fruit and vegetables over €10.
