**Many people across the UK are of course generous supporters of charity and fundraisers.
But, on my two trips to the Isles of Scilly, I’ve been most impressed by the extent
of fundraising and charitable giving going on on those islands, particularly given
the [population of just over 2,000](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isles_of_Scilly).**

They must win the prize for the highest density of collecting tins per head of the
population!

Walk past any row of cottages, even on the less populated islands like St Anne’s
and Bryher, and you’ll almost certainly see a collecting tin at the garden gate,
raising funds for a charity.

Returning from a holiday there last month, here are some of the many examples I
came across.

I particularly liked the idea of selling take-away cream teas for charity, the message
in a gents’ toilet, and selling wi-fi internet access to benefit the local wildlife
trust. With any luck, you might pick up a few ideas from these images too.

There, I’m making you sit through my holiday slides. Some traditions never die…
