A new social enterprise providing Internet security for children online hopes to
raise €5 million for children’s charities over the first five years of its operation,
according to a report in the [Irish Times](http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2010/0625/1224273259556.html).

Reassureme.com also hopes that after 2015 it will raise €2 million annually for
charity.

Twelve Irish charities including Barnados, Crumlin Children’s Hospital Medical and
Research Foundation, Enable Ireland and The Jack Jill Foundation are set to benefit
from the new business.

The site uses “internationally recognised software” to provide its service. The
Parental Supervision software costs €49, while the complete Home PC Safety and Internet
Security version is priced at €79.

Reassureme’s founding director David Girvan says they only need 13% of the market
after five years to reach their target. He added that only 7% of computer users
in Ireland currently had some form of parental control software. “In parenting we
set boundaries, but most parents can’t do that online because they think it’s too
complicated,” he said.

Parents can also check reports of each child’s online activity and also change the
control settings from their work computer.
