Over £582,000 has been raised by Tesco for the British Red Cross and DEC Haiti Earthquake
Appeal.

The money was raised by a mix of in-store employee fundraising, British Red Cross
volunteer collections for the DEC appeal, a large corporate donation, and a Tesco
Clubcard promotion. The Clubcard scheme allowed shoppers to donate their Clubcard
vouchers to the appeal, generating an additional £10,000 for the British Red Cross
Haiti earthquake operation. Tesco say that this is the first time that a UK retailer
has used their customer reward scheme to fundraise for a major disaster.

Money raised for Haiti is part of the wider British Red Cross and Tesco Emergency
Response partnership, launched in January 2009, which provides holistic support
to Red Cross emergency response at a local, national and global level by mobilising
Tesco’s entire business. In just over one year the partnership has already raised
£672,000 to support people affected by disasters in ten international countries
and three UK communities. Tesco stores have also provided vital supplies for two
UK emergencies during the Cockermouth floods and the UK-wide snow in this year’s
winter.
