Archbishop Desmond Tutu opened the AFP International Fundraising Conference in Baltimore
with a wonderfully funny and heartfelt address. Unfortunately my talk on mobile
phone fundraising came next – but the US audience was great and I appreciated the
benefits of a brilliant warm-up artist.

So far mobile bar-codes have not hit the US fundraising profession, but judging
by the enthusiasm they showed it won’t be long before they will be telling us how
it is done. Leadership being a process they feel is inherently their right to demonstrate.

This would be a video link, but my Flip was noticed as soon as it went into action
and I only caught his smile before being reprimanded.

Overall it was a great conference and there is a lot that we can learn from the
US’s extensive experience of most fundraising techniques. I would rate this conference
way over the other international conventions.

See you there next year
