It’s not every day that greyhounds can watch their masters chase the automated rabbit
around the race track…

It was a dog’s life for bingo callers, bookies and croupiers alike last night as
several members of Gala Coral took to the track to raise money for Sue Ryder Care.

Dressed in fancy dress dog costumes and passing bones instead of batons, 12 employees
from Gala’s Nottingham office galloped through mud and dirt around the dog track
at Brighton and Hove’s Greyhound stadium.

The team raised in excess of £7,000 for Sue Ryder care, which provides vital support
to people with specialist palliative, end of life and long-term neurological care
needs.

Running in six teams of two, the overall winners were Nottingham locals John “The
Bullet” Birmingham and Mark “The Torpedo” Tucker.

Teams ran a total of 550 metres passing a bone (in place of a baton) to their team
mate half way around the circuit.

Commenting on the race, Gala Bingo Managing Director Simon Longbottom said:

“Since Sue Ryder Care was selected as Gala Coral’s charity partner we have seen
firsthand what a huge difference the charity makes to the lives of the people it
cares for. I’m immensely proud of all Gala Coral’s employees who took part in the
race and grateful to all those who made a donation. From this one event alone, we
are able to make a significant contribution to help Sue Ryder Care continue its
important work.”

The unusual ‘dog’ race was featured live on Sky Sports, who were at the track to
film the Coral Sussex Cup (Tuesday 28 July), a highlight of the Greyhound race calendar.
