The Sailors’ Society’s BBC Radio 4 Appeal, presented in July by television presenter
Ben Fogle, has raised £5,375 in support of seafarers across the world.

In the appeal Fogle spoke about his time at sea when he spent two months in a 20ft
long vessel taking part in the Atlantic Rowing Race. He compared the isolation he
felt during that time with that of seafarers, who spend many months at sea unable
to communicate with their families or and loved ones.

[The Sailors’ Society](http://www.sailors-society.org) secured their appeal, like
other charities, through applying to the BBC. The BBC’s UK-wide broadcast appeals
are made weekly on BBC Radio 4 on Sunday mornings and evenings and monthly on BBC
One on Lifeline. The Radio 4 appeal is repeated on Thursday afternoons and there
is usually a repeat of Lifeline during the following week.
