Judy Murray, mum to Andy Murray, Britain’s number one singles player and Jamie Murray,
Britain’s top doubles player is encouraging people around the UK to hold a Strawberry
Tea for Breast Cancer Care during Wimbledon fortnight.

Strawberry Tea is one of Breast Cancer Care’s annual fundraising events. It is an
easy and fun way to raise money for the charity and the perfect excuse for friends
to get together and support the tens of thousands of people who are diagnosed with
breast cancer each year in the UK. With the help of Judy Murray, Breast Cancer Care
is asking people to organise their very own Strawberry Tea event this summer.

Judy said, “A couple of years ago, I lost two really good friends to breast cancer.
The three of us were of a similar age and we often played tennis together. They
were so fit and active – and then suddenly they weren’t there any more. That’s when
I became aware of the importance of screening and of the excellent support provided
by charities such as Breast Cancer Care, which is why I’m so keen to help Breast
Cancer Care to raise money. Why not use Wimbledon as an excuse to invite a few friends
round? In return for a small donation they could enjoy a strawberry tea while sitting
enjoying the tennis on your television.”

A Strawberry Tea can be anything from a strawberry treats in the garden, an afternoon
strawberry tea-break in the office or, as Judy mentions, inviting some friends over
to watch the tennis whilst enjoying some strawberries and cream. Whatever you decide,
Breast Cancer Care will send a fundraising pack full of ideas, hints and tips to
help with your event.

In the UK, someone is diagnosed with breast cancer every 12 minutes. By holding
a Strawberry Tea, you really can make a difference to those diagnosed with breast
cancer and those affected by the diagnosis by enabling Breast Cancer Care to provide
them with free support and information when they need it most.
