# New National Occupational Standards for fundraisers announced

The UK Workforce Hub and The Institute of Fundraising have collaborated to revise
and improve the fundraising National Occupational Standards (NOS). The standards
have been designed for fundraisers, those who fundraise as part of their work, and
those that manage fundraising, whether it is in a voluntary or paid capacity.

Fundraisers will be able to apply the standards that are specific to their role,
as the new NOS include units on grant fundraising, corporate fundraising, major 
gifts and direct marketing.

These standards, funded by the Sector Skills Development Agency (renamed the UK 
Commission for Employment and Skills, UKCES), cover both the skills and the knowledge
that every competent fundraiser needs to be able to do their job at a nationally
recognised level of competence.

Carrick Allison, Director of Professional Development at the Institute of Fundraising,
said: “The new Fundraising Standards mark a significant advance in the support available
to volunteer and paid fundraisers throughout the UK. Whether a fundraising employee,
volunteer or employer, there now exists a freely available resource that will help
them to perform better in their role, enhance the quality of service to donors and
through this, build the resources available to their organisation to make a genuine
difference to society. The Institute will continue to work with individuals and 
organisations, using the Standards as a baseline, to deliver excellent fundraising.”
