Writing in The Guardian, home of the Free Our Data campaign, [Michael Cross reports](http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2007/dec/13/freeourdata.software?gusrc=rss&feed=technology)
that the Ordnance Survey has finally agreed to allow nonprofit organisations to
display their own data on its maps for free. Until today charities and nonprofit
organisations had to pay a fee to do so.

So, now charities can post data such as fundraising event venues, locations of local
fundraising groups, and other useful information that can be graphically represented
on Ordnance Survey maps online.

Nonprofit organisations can do so using Ordnance Survey’s OpenSpace product. However,
the product is currently available only to a select group of users: it will be opened
up to all nonprofit organisations in 2009.

But is it all too little too late, given the easy availability of Google Maps which
offers similar tools at no charge?
