South Coast law firm Lester Aldridge has launched a new service to support charities’
legacy departments. The new service, located within the firm’s Private Client Group
and newly expanded Charities team, covers both the contentious and non contentious
aspects of the administration of trusts and estates.
The service includes preferential
fees for charities and a file surgery where someone from LA’s team will visit the
charity to give advice on files.

The service is designed to provide support for busy legacy departments by assisting
them with problem cases which involve legacies.

Partner, Geoff Thomas, head of the team, explained the need for the firm’s new service.“
Legacy income in the UK exceeds £1 billion per annum”, he said, “and is usually
the largest source of voluntary income to charities and not for profit organisations.
We understand the volume of work legacy departments deal with on an annual basis,
the obstacles which can delay this process, how to overcome them and the need for
a dedicated service which covers all aspects of contentious and non contentious
trust and estate administration.

“Announcing the bespoke service reflects what we have learnt from working closely
with our existing charity clients and what they have said they would like from a
dedicated legal service.”
