Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN) is encouraging community groups to take
advantage of funding from the Landfill Communities Fund that it distributes.
WREN
was founded nearly ten years ago and has been responsible for distributing almost
£100 million to 4,000 needy projects across the UK.

The landfill tax credits it distributes are provided by the landfill operator Waste
Recycling Group Ltd (WRG) which works with several local authorities and manages
13 million tonnes of household, commercial and industrial waste each year.

WREN is able to use a proportion of the landfill tax that WRG collects to fund projects
that improve the environment within 10 miles of a landfill site.

Recipients of the organisation’s grants vary widely from small community groups
looking to build a village hall, to larger organisations such as The Woodland Trust
and the RSPB.

Peter Cox, Managing Director of WREN, said: “Whether you are hoping to build a new
playground, restore a historic building, or plant more trees WREN could be a source
of funding for your project.

“We distribute £15 million annually for the benefit of communities, and are urging
people involved in community projects to come forward and apply for a grant.”
