**John Bird, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Big Issue, and his daughter Diana
Bird have set up an affinity card that promotes shopping locally and raises funds
for charities.**

The Wedge Card offers discounts and special offers from hundreds of local shops
and independent businesses with the aim of “re-vitalis[ing] local communities by
offering an affinity scheme to customers using local shops and services”.

It costs £20 for a year. Initially it covers just central London businesses but
the Birds plan to expand it across London. Half of the fee is donated to local charities.
