# Charity Givers with Hearts of Gold

Leading national charity Action Medical Research has been awarded a Gold Quality
Mark Award by the Charities Aid Foundation in recognition of the generosity of its
staff.

 

The award is given to any organisation which has more than 10% of its staff taking
part in the Give As You Earn scheme, donating money to charity through the payroll.
At Action Medical Research, over 27% of staff donate through the payroll giving 
scheme, giving a total of almost £200 a month. Two thirds of the participants of
the scheme give their money back to Action Medical Research, and others give through
their pay packets to an alternative chosen cause.

Donating through the payroll is an increasingly popular way to donate to charity,
as it is quick and easy. Anyone can authorise their employer to deduct an amount
regularly from your pay. All donations are taken before tax is calculated, so every
£10 you give only costs you £7.80, or £6.00 if you pay tax at a higher rate.

 

Fundraiser at the charity Marcia Hibberd said: “We are delighted to receive this
award and recognition of the generosity of the team here. As a charity, we are encouraging
others to take part in the scheme to help us fund medical research for preventing
disease and disability, and we’re delighted that we are leading by example in this
case.”

 

Payroll giving is not only a convenient and easy way to support a charity, but for
Action Medical Research, regular donations are a reliable source of income that 
allows the charity to plan more vital research for the future.
