Richard Caborn, Minister for Sport, will today open the Big Lottery Fund’s new operational
centre at the newly built St James Gate development in Newcastle.
The new northern
HQ has been established after the Big Lottery Fund decided to to establish operational
centres in Newcastle and Birmingham to take the lead in distributing Lottery cash,
a role previously carried out in London and eight other regional centres.

It comes also as a result of the Lyons Review, which identified and promoted the
relocation of civil service jobs from London and the South East.

Sir Clive Booth, Chair of the Big Lottery Fund said: “By centralising our funding
operations and moving them out of London we’ll secure real efficiency savings. Reductions
in running costs will mean more money going directly to projects and communities.”
