Philanthropy UK, the initiative of the Association of Charitable Foundations (ACF)
to help develop new philanthropy by promoting and disseminating knowledge and best
practice, has received three-year strategic funding from the Home Office.
The funding,
which begins in April 2006 will support Philanthropy UK’s existing products and
service in England, and will help the consortium to conduct a sector-wide consultation
to determine the nature of support desired by, and appropriate for, individual philanthropists.

The £370,000 grant is part of a new strategic funding stream from Government for
organisations that support philanthropy. It was awarded by the Volunteering and
Charitable Giving Unit (VCGU) to the Association of Charitable Foundations (ACF)
on behalf of Philanthropy UK.

The Philanthropy UK project was a three-year project run by Theresa Lloyd which
ended in 2004. Since then an informal consortium of partner organisations with an
interest in encouraging the development of philanthropy in the UK have helped continue
some of the work of the Philanthropy UK Project, including a free, quarterly email
newsletter.
