The Institute of Fundraising’s Trusts Special Interest Group and its Statutory Fundraising
Special Interest Group are likely to merge following support for the idea from both
groups’ committees.

The merger was suggested because there is considerable overlap in the work of the
two groups’ members, who work on trusts and foundations, lottery and statutory grant
applications.

The Trusts Special Interest Group was established in 1999 and the Statutory Fundraising
Special Interest Group in 2003. The former has grown well whereas the latter has
not.

If there merger goes ahead, the new gorup would probably add a fourth annual event,
on a statutory theme, it the usual three organised by the Trusts SIG.

The proposed merger will take effect immediately after the Trusts Special Interest
Group AGM, provided the merger is ratified by a straight majority of the Trusts
SIG members who are also members of the Institute. The Statutory Fundraising Group
committee has already recommended that it should proceed to the proposed merger.

The proposed new name for the merged group is the descriptive yet lengthy “Institute
of Fundraising Trusts and Statutory Fundraising Special Interest Group” or IFTSF
SIG for short. Alternatively they could copy UK Fundraising’s approach from its
discussion forum and site navigation taxonomy and simply use the word “grantseeking”
speciali interest group.
