A conference planned for 9th November in Dublin will discuss proposed government
legislation on the regulation of fundraising. Organised by the Irish Charity Tax
Reform Group, the conference ‘From Policy to Practice – Charity Regulation,’ will
focus on what can be learned from regulation of UK charities.

In anticipation of the publication of new charities’ legislation early next year
in Ireland there will be discussion on self regulation of fundraising, SORP and
special legal structures for charities. The opening address of the conference will
be given by Sean Fleming, chairman of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance
and the Public Service, on government policy in relation to charities and in particular
taxation policy in the context of the new legislation.

Key speakers from the UK include Lindsay Boswell, CEO of the Institute of Fundraising,
Luke Fitzherbert, a director of the Directory of Social Change and Gavan Smith from
conference sponsors, Triodos Bank. Lorcan Colclough, chairman of the Leinster Society
of Chartered Accountants, and Patricia Clarke, Law Reform Commissioner, will provide
