# AIDS Walk New York raises $3.6 million online in three years

AIDS Walk New York announced that since 2002, when event participants were first
offered personalised Web sites with linked e-mail facilities, more than $3.6 million
has been raised online.
Over 132,000 sponsored walkers have been offered the online
tools in the past three years to help them fundraise. AIDS Walk New York uses Kintera’s
Friends Asking Friends® system.

The walk is said to be “the world’s largest AIDS fundraising event” and raises funds
for Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC).

Over the past three years participants have used the system more and increased the
average amount raised online. In 2002 the average raised was $294 with an average
of 27.9 e-mails sent. In 2003 the average raised was $307 with an average of 29 
e-mails sent. In 2004 the average raised was $340 with an average of 32.6 e-mails
sent.

Online income continues to increase each year. In 2002 2,401 of the 42,000 participants
raised $668,601 online, 14.2% of the $4.7 million total. In 2003 4,418 of the 45,000
participants raised $1.2 million of the $5.1 million raised, an 82% increase in 
online income over the previous year. In 2004 5,497 of the 45,000 participants raised
$1.8 million of the $5.4 million raised, a 46% increase in online revenue compared
to 2003. Online donations in 2004 represent 32% of the total amount raised.

Of course many participants that raised money online also generated funds offline
as well. In 2002 the online fundraisers raised $705,488 online and offline. In 2003
this rose to $1.4 million, and $1.9 million in 2004.
