**Uber-search engine Google has announced it is to create a charitable grant-making
foundation.**

In the run-up to the anticipated public offering of Google on the US stock market,
the search engine company has announced that it will create a charitable foundation
to co-ordinate all its charitable activities.

It already offers a ‘Google Grants’ programme which gives US non-profit groups free
AdWords„¢ advertising on its results pages. Current applications are on hold but
you can still fill in the downloadable application form for possible future consideration.

The Foundation, however, will go beyond this and actually make cash grants to non-
profits. In addition it is likely non-US groups will be eligible for these.
