Cardiff-based social business Pack-IT Product Promotions has won the Department
of Trade and Industry’s Enterprising Solutions 03 Awards, receiving a cheque for
£10,000.
The contract packing, fulfilment and despatch business provides training
opportunities and permanent paid employment for people with learning and physical
disabilities. Half the staff have Down’s syndrome, are profoundly deaf or have behavioural
and learning difficulties.

The National Social Enterprise Awards are designed to celebrate the best social
and community enterprises, namely those that are imaginative, entrepreneurial, sustainable
businesses. Entries were open to social businesses of any type – non-profit distributing,
mutual, co-operative, community or socially directed, with a turnover of less than
£3 million.

Pack-IT’s turnover is now £1.4 million, twenty times what is was nine years ago,
after it turned to income generation following the withdrawal of its grant from
Cardiff County Council.
