High street retailer Boots plc, has won the Gold Hallmark Award for the best online

reporting of its community and charitable activities.
The Hallmark Awards, designed
by CAF (Charities Aid Foundation), recognise

and encourage innovation, creativity and best practice by rewarding those companies
that most effectively promote their corporate community investment (CCI) on the
Web.

The judges gave high marks to Boots in each of the four criteria – content, communication,
credibility and

comparability. According to Samantha Stotland, Hallmark Award judge and CAF

Company Services Manager, “the Boots Web site stole the show because of the clarity
with which it effectively communicated the company’s CCI activities to both staff
and the wider community.”

The Co-operative Bank received the Silver Hallmark Award for its ‘ethics action
web pages’, ‘opportunity for feedback’ and its

‘down-loadable grant applications and extensive guidance’.

“Both sites are excellent examples of what an integrated approach, stakeholder engagement,
creativity and resources can achieve when reporting community involvement on the
Internet,” said Ms Stotland.

Barclays, BT, National Grid, Kelloggs, Dixons, Cargill, BHP Billiton and GlaxoSmithKline
were all highly commended by the judges. Over 600 company Web sites were reviewed
against the Hallmark Awards judging

criteria, developed in partnership with Next Step Consulting, the London-based consultancy
specialising in corporate environmental and social communications.

The list of websites was gathered using an interactive directory of companies on
www.CCInet.org – a CAF website which promotes best practice in community investment
reporting and provides profiles and links to hundreds of organisations working in
the field of CCI.
