Flora London Marathon runners have already raised more than £1 million for charity
online.
One in ten runners have chosen to raise money through charity giving Web
site Justgiving, an official partner of the Flora London Marathon for the second
year running.

At 17.00 on 10 April, almost 3,500 people had collected £1,021,506 including Gift
Aid through their personal sponsorship pages, which process donations securely from
anywhere in the world and save runners the hassle of collecting cash and cheques.

This represents a five-fold increase on 2002, when 900 runners raised a total of
£213,000 online at Justgiving. The 2003 total will certainly rise: Justgiving is
currently processing more than 1,200 individual donations per day and runners can
continue to collect money for two months after the race.

Celebrity runners using the Justgiving system include the Prime Minister’s director
of communications Alastair Campbell who has raised more than £5,000 online for the
Leukaemia Research Fund, and former boxer Michael Watson who has raised almost £
5,000 for the Brain and Spine Foundation.
