London Underground’s latest attempt to tackle ticket touts will raise funds for
homeless charity St Mungo’s.
London Underground is hoping to cut the number of used
tickets resold by touts. Tube passengers at Briston Tube station are being encouraged
to deposit their used tickets in specially designed bins: for every ticket placed
in the bins London Underground will make a donation to St Mungo’s.

The trial scheme began on 19 December 2002 at Brixton and if successful will be
rolled out to other stations on the Tube network.

Group Station Manager, Paul Jessett said: “The problem of ticket touting at Brixton
is horrendous. This simple idea, thought up by staff at the station has given us
a real chance of beating the touts while helping our local charity – St. Mungo’s.
By cutting out the aggressive touts those in real need are getting practical help
from our customers.”

It is estimated that up to £1 million is lost each year in ticket sales through
ticket touting.
