SchoolNet Namibia argues that free is not always best, particularly if it comes
with an unexpected price tag.
SchoolNet Namibia’s founding executive director Joris
Komen has written a forceful open letter to Microsoft arguing that the company’s
offer of donated software will actually cost the voluntary organisation “more than
$24,000.”

This is due to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreements which means
that “they are effectively limited to lower quality PC technologies.”

Find out more about the argument and read the open letter in “Namibia spurns ‘costly’
Microsoft donation” by Alistair Otter at South Africa-based ITWeb.
