The Daily Telegraph paints a bleak picture of charities facing a drop in donations
through poorly performing stock markets, reduced corporate giving, and a need to
protect themselves from a growing “compensation culture” of litigation.
The Telegraph’s
report highlight’s the reduction in British Airways’ budget for charitable support,
down from

£515,800 last year to £330,000 this financial year. As recently as 2000-2001 it
was giving £782,000. Other major corporate givers are cutting back too, according
to Corporate Citizen magazine. Its Autumn issue reports that 21 of the top 50 UK
corporate donors gave less in 2001-2002 than in 2000-2001.
