Revolution magazine, which covers “business and marketing in the digital economy”,
reviews the British Pregnancy Advice Service’s Web site this week. Although the
magazine comments that “the site is easy to navigate” it adds that “phrases such
as “the information in this leaflet” suggest that a lot of text has just been lifted
from brochures.”

‘Brochureware’ is the disparaging jargon for such an approach to Web sites. Transferring
printed material to a Web site is a standard procedure, but such material does need
to be edited for the Web. A small amount of pre-launch testing by selected users
usually picks up this kind of error.
