Edinburgh council has advised head teachers to remove or blur photos of schoolchildren
on their school Web sites to protect them from contact or identification by paedophiles.
Such issues have been faced by children’s charities. How do you promote the work
of a children’s charity without publishing pictures of the children the charity
has already helped or is working to assist?

The Edinburgh council guidance paper acknowledges that “a school Web site without
pictures of pupils would appear very dry and may seem unrealistic,” but they argue
that schools could be held responsible if any children are placed in danger as a
result of Web site publication.
