Adding online purchases to your ISP bill is a compelling alternative to online credit
card payments.
UK Fundraising has already highlighted the possibilities of Web or
ISP billing as a method of handling online payments or donations, particularly for
low value sums. Such payments are simply added to your monthly or quarterly bill
from your Internet Service Provider.

The system has many strengths. When buying you don’t have to submit credit card
details, you just have to identify yourself. Shopping and donating become truly
one-click affairs.

eCharge is one company offering to enable such e-commerce with its product eCharge
Phone. Jason Bray, European director of business development, told Internet World
magazine this month: “there is absolute security. To make a fraudulent purchase,
someone would have to break into your house and dial up from your computer on your
phone line.” He added that the system works because it simply piggy-backs on ‘phone
companies’ experience of billing in small amounts and their huge billing infrastructure.
