turn to philanthropy. The former Tripod communities co-founder isn’t giving cash
to non-profits: he has started his own. [Geekcorps](http://www.geekcorps.org) plans
to send e-commerce and tech experts to developing nations.

Geekcorps is featured in this month’s Wired magazine. He is reported as describing
Geekcorps as a “dot-org”. Apart from emphasising the non-profit status of his start-
up, this is his shorthand for distinguishing his start-up from “the non-profit tradition
of proposals, grants, and rigid multiyear project plans.” His term is meant to be
more “guided by the fast-paced mind-set of the [Internet] industry.”
