Charity Web sites should be legible by as many people as possible. Too many Web
sites, however, are not designed in a way that allows blind people or people with
visual impairments to use them. Online publishers might not have much longer left
before they are forced to put their house in order.
Nine blind people in the USA
are suing America Online to make the company redesign its Web pages so that they
can read them. US legislation requires businesses to make reasonable efforts to
make sure that their services are accessible to disabled people. AOL has promised
that it will make its site compatible with text-reading software, but not until
next year.

In an unrelated move, Abbey National is redesigning its Web site so that it can
be viewed by partially sighted people.
