Online shopping could benefit charities significantly, in more ways than one. Four
UK charities will benefit from the John Lewis Partnership’s launch of its new free
Internet Service.
[Waitrose.com](http://www.waitrose.com) is trying to differentiate
itself from the other free ISPs by allowing subscribers to nominate one of four
charities to receive the company’s share of revenue from call charges. The participating
charities are:

 * British Red Cross
 * British Heart Foundation
 * Macmillan Cancer Relief
 * Prince’s Trust

Subscribers can vote up until 31st July 2000. Then proceeds will be distributed
according to votes cast. Note that Waitrose.com are aware that market conditions
might change so it states: “As long as local BT charges apply, Waitrose.com will
donate proceeds to the nominated charities as described above.”
