Online donations can come from many unexpected sources. Ty Hafan, the Children’s
Hospice of Wales, for example, is the beneficiary of a software developer who encourages
users to make a small donation for using his products.

Online donations can come from many unexpected sources. Ty Hafan, the Children’s
Hospice of Wales, for example, is the beneficiary of a software developer who encourages

[David Griffiths](http://www.demon.co.uk/davidg/spigots.htm) produces Java applets
which can add impressive functions and facilities to Web pages. He offers these
for free, but asks that satisfied users make a charitable donation. On his scripts
site he says: “there is NOTHING to pay. The applet is completely free. However,
if you make a donation ($5 – $10?) to [Ty Hafan, Children’s Hospice of Wales](http://www.cardiffcybercafe.co.uk/ty-hafan/homepage.html),
which is a charitable appeal formed to build, equip and run a Children’s Hospice
in Wales to provide care for terminally ill children, you can consider your applet
well-and-truly registered. Click here for details on how [to make a donation](http://www.cardiffcybercafe.co.uk/ty-hafan/donate.html).”

Not only does Griffiths encourage support for a named charity, but he also sensibly
adds a link to the online donation page, making it difficult to ignore.
