Comic Relief have already a legal threat, as reported by UK Fundraising last month,
but now they are on the receiving end of a boycott. A Roman Catholic primary school
headmaster has “banned Red Nose Day” at his school because of Comic Relief’s funding
of family planning charities. Not surprisingly, his action has been widely reported
by the national press and radio. Comic Relief state that since 1985 less than 1%
of their grants have been given to family planning charities. The charity has received
criticisms in the past from some campaigners who claim that Comic Relief pays for
abortions, an allegation that the charity categorically denies.
