The Cancer Research Campaign has also been nominated for the prize for best non-
commercial Web site at this year’s UK Web Awards sponsored by Marketing, Yell and
Internet.Works magazine. Other nominations go to the RSPCA and Red Mole student
magazine. The 1997 winner was Amnesty International for its refugee campaign, and
the winner in 1996 was OneWorld Onlines.
Significantly no organisation, whether
charity or for-profit, was selected for the best online banner ad category. Charities
might be able to win awards for advertising in newspapers and in direct mail, but
three years after the banner ad was invented, they and their design agencies haven’t
quite mastered the art of 468 x 60 pixels.
