We reveal the results of the Skipton Building Society’s fundraising in its efforts
to deter carpetbaggers.
In September 1997 UK Fundraising [reported ](https://www.fundraising.co.uk/news.php?id=5210&rtype=news)
on the decision by the Skipton Building Society to require all new investors to
donate £25 to the NSPCC as part of their efforts to deter carpetbaggers keen on
making a tidy profit should the Building Society demutualise.

The idea has paid off, raising £400,000 for the charity.
