Dear Fundraisers,
Does anyone have experience of organising a Three Peaks Challenge event, or
know of one that individuals can take part in for different charities? If
you do, could you let me know?
Thanks!
Lucy

Three Peaks Challenge

Hi Lucy,
From a revenue creating point of view, one of our people at Shaw Trust ran
the three peaks challenge last year and tried to raise some sponsorship
money on a fairly large scale from doing a 'mailshot' but she got a
disappointing response, because she relied on the event itself to try and
create the interest, and it's just not as well publicised as the London
Marathon. Having said that - of course she got the most money from people
who knew her, or the project she was fundraising for (targetting pays).
It raises some interesting questions about sponsorship fundraising - event
or issue?
On a related matter which will be of interest to fundraisers: this year Shaw
Trust had fifteen 'Golden Bond' places in the London Marathon which we
advertised in two ways: an ad in a well known marathon running magazine and
a (free) ad on a marathon website. Both ads appeared at about the same time
and the website ad outperformed the other by ten times in terms of
response.... Incidentally if anyone wants to run this year's marathon I
still have one or two 'Golden Bond' places left!

I know from some work I've done with Outward Bound recently that such
events are being actively campaigned against!
Too many people trying to do the "Superhero" bit in the National
Parks is creating severe havoc with the ifrastructure and the natural
environment.
I would certainly advise against trying to organise a new one at this
point : if you can find an existing one to join, then best of luck.
Cheers
Gerry
